Job Fair set up for Champ Clark Bridge
Aug 24 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

A Job Fair will be held at the Twin Pike YMCA, 611 Kelly Lane, in Louisiana, Mo. on Thursday, August 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for those interested in an opportunity to work on the new Champ Clark Bridge project.
“The Champ Clark Bridge will be constructed with a union work force hired by the contractor Massman Construction,” said Keith Killen, Missouri Department of Transportation professional engineer and project director for the Champ Clark Bridge.. “Representatives from union apprenticeship programs will be available at the job fair to discuss opportunities in the areas of carpentry, ironwork, cement masonry, labor, and operating engineering,” he explained.
Other opportunities may also exist for administrative/clerical positions, surveyors, and quality control technicians, among others.
Those interested in applying for positions are encouraged to attend the job fair, or go to www.careers.massman.net. Minorities and females are encouraged to apply.
A public meeting is being held the same day at the YMCA from 4-6 p.m. for anyone interested in learning more about the project. More information about the project can be found at www.champclarkbridge.com.

The Golden Kiwanis Alumni will meet at noon on Wednesday, September 6 at Diner 54 in Mexico. Doris Schutts, treasurer emeritus, will present a program on the upcoming Relay for Life scheduled Saturday, September 9.

Relay for Life slated for Sept. 9 in Mexico

The Relay for Life of Audrain County will take place Saturday, September 9 from 4-10 p.m. at the Mexico Middle School. Plan now to participate in the six-hour fundraising events that benefit the American Cancer Society. There will be food, games, contests, and entertainment for all ages and everyone is welcome.
Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and one day cancer will be eliminated.

POW-MIA display to be at local V.F.W. Post

The third Friday in September is the annual designated day for P.O.W.-M.I.A. Remembrance Day at which time the V.F.W. Post and Auxiliary pay tribute to the veterans who are no longer with us. This year, the V.F.W. Hall will have the “Missing Man” table on display Friday, September 15. The hall will be open from 1-5 p.m. so the public can visit and view the display.
Each article on the table has meaning. A chair stands empty to express their absence.
