National Day of Prayer event May 4
May 4 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

The Laddonia Ministerial Alliance will be hosting a National Day of Prayer event to be held in the Laddonia Baptist Church’s activity building on Thursday, May 4, beginning at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us, Forgive Us, Heal us.”
The churches of Laddonia invite individuals and the community to heed this national call to prayer and be unified in prayer for America.

Invitation to Lunch Buddies for May 5 @ Van-Far Elementary School
May 5 @ 10:15 am – 12:30 pm

Van-Far Elementary principal Brian Hummel encourages the Lunch Buddies to join them for  Grandparents Day on Friday, May 5. Many of our students’ grandparents are unable to attend. If your Lunch Buddy has a grandparent here, a fellow classmate would love to have you lunch with them. You mean the world to our students.   The schedule is as follows:
• Kindergarten in the classroom at 10:20-10:40 a.m. and for lunch at 10:50-11:15 a.m.
• 4th and 6th grades in the classroom at 10:40-11 a.m. and for lunch at 11:15-11:40 a.m.
• 1st and 2nd grades in the classroom at 11:05-11:25 a.m. and for lunch at 11:40 a.m.-12:05 p.m.
• 3rd and 5th grades in the classroom at 12:30-12:50 p.m. and for lunch at 12:05-12:30 p.m. Please RSVP by Monday, May 1 so we can prepare for your visit. Cost for lunch will be $2.50.

Vandalia All-Town Yard Sale
May 6 – May 7 all-day

The Vandalia All-Town Yard Sale will be held from 8 a.m.-? on Saturday, May 6. A pancake and sausage breakfast will be served at the Vandalia Fire Department from 6-10 a.m. while the Vandalia Area Fair Board will serve lunch at the four-way stop from 11 a.m. until its sold out.

Youngsters to get chance to take flight
May 6 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter No. 1387 will host a Young Eagles event on Saturday, May 6. Have you wondered what your neighborhood looks like from the sky, are you curious how airplanes even work, or do you dream about being a pilot?
If you’re shaking your head “yes” and are 8-17 years of age, then come to the Bowling Green Airport on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m.-noon and an EAA member volunteer pilot will take you on a free Young Eagles flight. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them to the event. In the event of inclement weather or high winds, there will be another event June 3. Contact the Young Eagles Coordinator Pat Donovan at 636-462-8370 with any questions.

The Adult Summer Reading Program registration begins May 8. Sign up at any of the five Audrain County libraries and claim your free gift (while supplies last).

Addicts Victorious has moved meeting site @ Unity Outreach Building

The Addicts Victorious meetings have moved to the Unity Outreach building at 210 S. Main, in Vandalia. Meetings are every Monday at the new location 6:30-7:30 p.m.

VFW Post No. 2173 meeting @ VFW Post No. 2173

The VFW Post No. 2173, Vandalia, will meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. All members are invited to attend.

Van-Far P.A.T. set for event at local park
May 15 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Van-Far Elementary Parents (P.A.T) as Teachers presents “Motors and More.” Everyone is invited to a fun evening in Tri-County Park (Swimming Pool Park) on May 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feel free to bring your child’s Power Wheel or other ride-on toy to drive on the tennis courts.
Everyone will have an opportunity to look at different vehicles and enjoy kiddie train rides, art activities, a fire truck, and school bus pop-up, and snacks.

Addicts Victorious has moved meeting site @ Unity Outreach Building

The Addicts Victorious meetings have moved to the Unity Outreach building at 210 S. Main, in Vandalia. Meetings are every Monday at the new location 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Poppy Days slated for VFW, May 19-20
May 19 – May 20 all-day

The annual V.F.W. Buddy Poppy Days are May 19-20. V.F.W. Auxiliary and Post members will be at business places accepting donations.
Money received is used for veterans welfare. Donations are made to the Veterans Hospitals in Missouri, the Mexico Veteran’s Home, V.F.W. National Home, in Michigan, local veterans in Mexico, and the U.S.O.
Disabled veterans assemble the poppies and are paid for their work. The V.F.W. motto is “Honor the dead by helping the living.” No one is refused a poppy. A poppy on anyone’s lapel honors all veterans.
