By the time you’re reading this editorial, our current reporter John McLaughlin will have worked his final day at The Vandalia Leader as he has accepted a job at a daily newspaper in South Dakota.
I want to publicly thank John for all of his hard work during his tenure at the newspaper.
I believe our readers enjoyed his coverage, especially when it came to stories on agriculture. He has a unique ability to handle complicated stories and make them easy for the reader to comprehend.
This means you will see me at games and other events until The Vandalia Leader hires a replacement.
In the meantime, please feel free to submit ideas, photos, or stories to email@example.com and I’ll work to ensure they are published.
If you see John before he leaves town, please take the time to wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. He will be missed.
With warships heading to the Korean region and military exercises taking place in both North and South Korea, it appears imminent that a war will begin very soon. North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un has been pushing propaganda to his people for some time that he is capable of leading his nation to a victory over the United States. He’s even showed videos showing the destruction of major U.S. cities to display his nation’s potential power under his leadership.
As he’s done a lot of talking, at some point, he’s going to need to act to show he means business.
While China has also shown displeasure recently with North Korea due to nuclear tests, this doesn’t mean China will be an ally if war breaks out in the region. In reality, their becoming an ally would actually go against a treaty the nation has with North Korea.
The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) currently has a “long-standing defense treaty” with North Korea, obligating China to defend North Korea in the event it is attacked.
This is why unfortunately the U.S. and South Korea might have no choice but to wait for North Korea to fire the first shot and hope China gives its support of a retaliation mission.
If that doesn’t happen, things could get ugly real quick. I encourage all readers to be spending some times on their knees praying about this situation.
