Clara Belle (Walker) Motley, age 97, of Vandalia, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at her home in Vandalia.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating was the Rev. Bob Hoehn.
Music provided was selected favorite hymns.
Interment was in the Smyrna Cemetery near New Hartford.
Pallbearers were Darrol Withrow, Dayton Withrow, Christopher Motley, Rick Gilliman, Jamie Logerman, and Elbert Logerman.
Clara Belle (Walker) Motley was born on October 6, 1915 in Chattam, Ill., the daughter of John Morgan and Mary Ann (Ramsey) Walker.
She married Elbert Phipps “Doc” Motley in Bowling Green on June 29, 1940; he preceded her in death on March 3, 1986.
She lived most of her life between New Hartford and Vandalia. After school, she started working for Ely Walker Garment Factory in Vandalia as a seamstress for several years.
After her marriage to “Doc”, Clara Belle became a full-time homemaker on the family farm.
She was a longtime member of the New Hartford Baptist Church and enjoyed dancing, embroidery, gardening and canning.
Survivors include her numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husband, “Doc”; seven brothers: Benjamin Walker, Colbie Walker, Jim Walker, Bill Walker, Gene Walker and Hubert Walker (twins) and Roby Walker; six sisters: Mallie Stinson, Birdie Walker, Ruby Motley, Minnie Motley, Hazel Walker and Ellen Walker.
