Local D.A.R. Chapter honors area winners

The Susanna Randolph Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) held a Patriots’ Day Celebration this past Sunday, April 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia. The area students receiving honors for DAR Good Citizen Award and the DAR Essay winners with their families and guests were invited.     Community R-VI teacher Brandon Westlake has been selected as one of 25 teachers nationwide to receive a prestigious scholarship to the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The scholarship gives Westlake the opportunity to study U.S. History in Dallas, Texas from July 19-25 at the George W. Bush Presidential Library on the Southern Methodist University campus.     It has been five months since Central Missouri Honor Flight has taken a planeload of veterans to Washington, D.C. to see their war memorials.     A Service of Internment was held for Bettie Shaw Sisson at Valhalla Garden of Memory at Belleville, Illinois on Saturday, April 4. Dinner for family and friends was served at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
