Poppy Sales May 17-18

On May 17-18, the V.F.W. Auxillary Post No. 2173 will be passing out Buddy Poppies for donations. The money raised from the poppies will go toward the Veterans Home and Hospital, National Home for Children (home for orphans of our nation’s veterans), phone cards for wounded veterans in the hospital and for active duty personnel, flags for the cemeteries and other projects that support the veterans.     The VFW Post No. 2173 will be hosting their Annual Memorial Day Services on May 27, 2013. Services will begin at 8 a.m. at the Curryville Cemetery, 8:30 a.m. at the Farber Cemetery, 9 a.m. at Memorial Garden, and 9:30 a.m. at the Vandalia Cemetery.     Gary and Helen Sosniecki, former owners of the Vandalia Leader, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary May 15. Gary Stuart Sosniecki of Bensenville, Ill., and Helen Louise Stephens of Clinton were married May 15, 1973, at Dripping Spring Christian Church near Columbia, Mo.
