R-VI students take third in Envirothon

On Wednesday, April 9, Community R-VI students participated in Regional Envirothon at the Runge Center in Jefferson City, taking third place. They will now advance to state Envirothon competition on May 1. Shown, from left: Mason Sims, Maddy Wieberg, Kaleb Harris, Julie Hale, and Lindsey Gastler. The team is coached by high school science teacher Melanie Utterback and they were sponsored by the Audrain County Soil and Water Conservation District.

  • Indians drop pair of EMO contests

    The Van-Far Indians baseball team is still looking for its first win of the season after dropping a pair of EMO Conference contests last week. Van-Far led 4-3 through three innings in their home battle with Wright City on April 10.     The Van-Far boys and girls track and field team won several medals last week after competing at meets in Monroe City and Hermann. At the MCMS Invitational, the Indians earned 50 team points to take fifth place overall in a 13-team meet. Lathyn McMorris led the boys in winning the 800 meters by seven seconds with a time of 2:24.4. He also won the 1,600 meters by 15 seconds with

    The Van-Far golf team continued to improve their scores last week after competing in three events. In the Paris triangular, the Indians shot a 239. Paris won with a 203 while Glasgow only had two golfers. The Indians were led by Brandon Otis, who shot the second best overall score with a 52. He was six shots back from a medalist from Paris.   • Van-Far Youth Football joins new league

    The future of Van-Far High School football became a little brighter recently when a decision was made for two youth teams to join NEMO Youth Football. Starting this August, players making up both a 3rd and 4th grade team as well as a 5th and 6th grade team will represent the Van-Far football program during a six game schedule.     The Van-Far Junior High track and field team had several top eight performances competing at meets in Montgomery County and Paris this past week. In the Montgomery County meet, the Lady Indians were led by standout performances from Jordan Garner and Jayle Jennings.
