Van-Far/Community R-VI football battles adversity in district victory

In spite of battling a Clopton/Elsberry team that beat them a few weeks earlier, battling several bad calls by the officiating crew, playing late in the game without their injured quarterback, and battling a timekeeper who seemed to be helping out the home team with when they chose to start the clock, it all didn’t matter last Friday night.     Lady Trojans JH takes second The Community R-VI Junior High Lady Trojans basketball team took second place in last week’s Madison Tournament. The Lady Trojans opened the tournament with a 31-17 victory over Higbee. Dalaney Bowers led the team with 14 points.   • Shawn Evans hits third 800 series in three years

    Shawn Evans, of Laddonia, celebrated with his brothers of the Monday Night Mens’s League recently as he reached another Individual milestone with his third 800 series in three years.  At age 50, he has bowled an 810; that is a 276, 270, and 264. Shawn says he has been bowling now for over 14 years. He bowls at Spare Time Bowl & Grill in Vandalia.

    Two Van-Far softball players recently earned all-EMO Conference or all-district honors for their performance during the 2014 season. Junior Madison Orr received first-team utility position honors in the EMO Conference and earned all-district honors. Her senior teammate Breanna Strange was named to the District 4, all-district team for her peformance in districts. No Community R-VI softball players earned EMO or district honors.

    The Van-Far/Community R-VI football was just three yards short of defeating Clopton/Elsberry last Friday night as the Indians lost the game in the final seconds, 14-12.
