The Community R-VI School District celebrated its athletes and coaches with its annual Athletic Banquet held on Friday, May 10. Senior Justin Durham was this year’s recipient of the Mr. Trojan Award while Paige Curtis won the Lady Trojan Award. The Sandra Schutte Award was given to Sean Wilson and Amelia Knipfel. Entering their final regular season game of the season without a victory, Van-Far’s seniors made sure they went out with a victory after defeating Madison 7-6 in extra innings. Ethan Gooch picked up the win on the mound in relief after tossing the final two innings and allowing no runs. Community R-VI’s three track and field sectional qualifiers each scored team points but were unable to advance past last weekend sectional meet held Saturday, May 11 at Principia High School. In the boys long jump, seniors Nick Jensen and Cameron Foreman each made a push for a top-four state qualifying finish. Jensen took fifth after leaping 19’5.5”. Four Community R-VI players earned EMO All-Conference honors after coaches recently made their first and second team selections. Sophomore Clay Thebeau was named to the first-team in the outfield while junior Kaleb Harris was named as a utility first-team player. Three Community R-VI track and field athletes advanced to sectionals this past weekend after earning top-four finishes at the Class 1, District 1 at Principia High School. The Community R-VI Trojans baseball team played their way into a No. 2 seed in districts this past week after winning four of their five games. Their stretch included two big wins over EMO Conference foes Bowling Green and Silex in a Monday night doubleheader. Before press time, the Community R-VI golf team had three golfers earn all-district honors while team finished third in the Class 1, District 3 meet held Monday, August 29 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton. Van-Far’s Brandon Otis continued the season for another week after he earned all-district honors in the Class 1, District 3 meet held Monday, April 29 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton. Otis shot a 102 to finish in a tie for 14th place. Louisiana’s Dylan Smith won the district title with an 82. Van-Far finished ninth out of 10 teams with a 605. Louisiana won the district title with a
