Varsity football falls late to Thunderbirds

The Van-Far/Community R-VI football team was just a few plays away from hosting this week’s district rematch with Clopton/Elsberry. The Indians took an early 16-point lead over North Callaway last Friday night before falling late in the game, 40-30. “I thought the effort was there,” said Van-Far/Community R-VI head coach Blake Logan. “We would be in their backfield a lot of times, would get there, and not finish the tackle.

  • Softball honors

    Two Van-Far softball players recently earned all-EMO Conference or all-district honors for their performance during the 2014 season. Junior Madison Orr received first-team utility position honors in the EMO Conference and earned all-district honors. Her senior teammate Breanna Strange was named to the District 4, all-district team for her peformance in districts. No Community R-VI softball players earned EMO or district honors.

    The Van-Far/Community R-VI football was just three yards short of defeating Clopton/Elsberry last Friday night as the Indians lost the game in the final seconds, 14-12. Running back Conner Albrecht was tackled on the three yard line after a one yard gain as time expired.   • Softball seasons end for Van-Far and Community R-VI at districts

    Seasons came to an end for softball players at both Van-Far and Community R-VI this past week as Silex went on to win the Class 1, District 4 championship. The first round of games were played at Community R-VI before the final games were moved to Mexico High School due to the weather.     Two weeks ago, the Van-Far/Community R-VI senior football players enjoyed picking up a rare Homecoming win in the recent history of the program. This same group added another special victory this past Friday as they scored 18 unanswered points to beat Wright City on Senior Night, 24-18.     The Van-Far Lady Indians softball team scored two runs in the final inning against Wright City but were unable to complete the comeback on the road after a 5-4 loss. The Lady Indians had the tying run on second but were unable to complete the comeback.
