Seven Van-Far boys qualify for state after Sectionals success

One week after winning the school’s first district track title, Van-Far’s boys track and field team was hoping for another successful meet in State Sectionals. The Indians athletes responded by finishing second overall with 84 team points. They won two sectional titles and will be sending seven of its nine athletes on to the Class 1 State Championships.     Four Community R-VI players along with one player from Van-Far were named last week to the All-EMO Conference team for 2015. The Trojans’ Lane Thebeau was named a first-team pitcher while his brother Clay Thebeau earned first-team honors as an outfielder. Kyle Curtis earned first-team honors as an utility player.     Two years ago, the Van-Far boys track and field program had no boys representing the school in its district meet. Two years later, a young Indians program competed in the Class 1, District 1 track and field meet and left Festus High School with Van-Far’s first ever boys track district title.     Van-Far senior golfer Brandon Otis qualified past districts last week after finishing with the 16th lowest score in the Class 1, District 6 match at the Norwoods Golf Course in Hannibal. Otis was just one stroke short of winning a medal as the district awards medals for Top-15 scores. “Brandon Otis did good job…,” said Van-Far head golf coach Dr. Forrest Bollow.     Van-Far’s boys and girls track and field teams recently enjoyed success at two meets in three days in Louisiana. In the Louisiana Invitational on April 28, the Indians scored 119 team points for second place overall. Sharrod Connor won the 100 meters in 11.92 seconds and won the 200 meters in 23.79 seconds.
