Update for Sturgeon Basketball Tournament

Both the boys and girls basketball teams at Community R-VI are getting ready for their trophy/plaque games at the annual Sturgeon Basketball Tournament.The Lady Trojans will be playing for the championship at 9 p.m. on Friday, January 30 against New Bloomfield, the No. 7 team in Class 2.     The Community R-VI girls basketball team used their solid defensive play to help them to a dominating 65-39 road victory last week in Louisiana. The Lady Trojans held Louisiana to just six points in the first eight minutes of play.     The Community R-VI Trojans avenged a buzzer beater loss from a year ago last week when they traveled to Louisiana and beat a good Bulldogs team, 68-61. Community R-VI jumped out to a 21-15 first quarter lead and held on for a 34-32 halftime edge.     The Van-Far Indians drew a tough assignment in the first round of last week’s Palmyra Tournament as the No. 8 seed taking on the top seeded host team coached by former Indians coach Brian Meny.
