President Paul Rayl opened the March 22 meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society at the Vandalia Hotel by asking for new discoveries and donations.     After a two month winter break, the Farmer Farmerette Club held its first meeting of 2013 on Friday, March 8, at the home of Keri Bradford with Kay Reading as hostess.   • Women’s Guild meets

    The St. John Lutheran Women’s Guild in Vandalia met at the church on March 13, following a Lenten meal and worship service. The meeting was opened with prayer by President Carol Fischer. The Lenten sermon served as the devotion for the evening. Seven members answered roll call, each reading a scripture related to hunger or being hungry. The secretary’s minutes were read and approved.   • Right to Farm passes 110-41

    The Missouri State House of Representatives passed HJR 7 and 11, the constitutional right to farm today with an overwhelming 110 yes to 41 no vote. The legislation now goes to the State Senate for consideration. The legislation began as two separate bills – HJR 7 and HJR 11 but the bills were combined in committee. Rep. Jason Smith and Rep. Bill Reiboldt sponsored HJR 7 and HJR 11 respectively.

  • Agape House celebrates 5,000th guest

    Board members, at the February 19 meeting, learned that the 5,000th guest stayed at the house January 31.  Sue (not her real name) of southwest Missouri visits a grandson in Bowling Green.  She comes only three or four times a year, due to the distance involved.  She appreciates the availability of this safe and quiet guest house, plus the savings realized in staying there.
