Local bowlers excel at state event

The 2014 Missouri State Women’s Bowling Tournament was held in Springfield, Mo. on consecutive weekends starting March 15 through April 13. Vandalia’s Spare Time Bowl & Grill was represented by three top placing teams. Divisions 3 Daydreamers: Helen Crew, Gay Lynn Fife, Gale Knight, Connie McGlasson, and Mary Scherder placed second out of 150 teams. Rolling Pins: Judy Hull, Teresa Moss, Carrie Reading, Leah Wendel, and Vicki Wright placed fourth

  • St. Louis Cardinals’ Caravan to be in Mexico on January 17

    The St. Louis Cardinals announced today the schedule for the team’s 2014 Cardinals Caravan that includes a noon stop in Mexico, Missouri on Friday, January 17th. The free event, sponsored by Mexico radio station KXEO-AM, will be held at The Missouri Military Academy Gymtorium. The announced Caravan for Mexico includes NLCS MVP Michael Wacha, pitcher Tyler Lyons, minor league outfielders Stephen Piscotty and Jermaine Curtis, along with Cardinal alumni pitchers

  • Van-Far JH boys sweep Clopton

    Both the Van-Far 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams defeated Clopton on December 20. The 7th grade team led 34-14 at halftime before the defense gave up just four, second half points in a 55-18 victory.     On December 27, the Van-Far boys basketball team competed at Moberly Area Community College in the MRMC Holiday Shootout. The Centralia Panthers led all four quarters to defeat the Van-Far Indians, 54-29. Centralia took an early lead in the first quarter by scoring 15 points.     The Community R-VI girls basketball team improved their record to 3-1 on the road Thursday, December 12 after beating the Madison Lady Panthers, 46-29. In the first quarter, the Lady Trojans scored 11 points to take a seven point lead.
