  • Farmer Farmerette Club met May 2

    The Farmer Farmerette Club met at the home of Keri Bradford for their monthly meeting on Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. with Pauline Oberman as hostess. A delicious meal was served by the hostess before the meeting.  President Kay Reading called the meeting to order with the pledge to the American flag led by Oberman.   • Agape House hosts record number of children

    Agape House board members meet in regular session Tuesday, April 16.  They were encouraged with the report of 21 children staying at the house during March, along with 46 adults.  Guest numbers have stayed consistently greater this year than in the previous two years.  Guest surveys indicate they have learned of the availability of this guest house from their family members that are incarcerated, either at Bowling Green or Vandalia.

  • Center man honored with leadership award

    Dennis McMillen of Center, Mo., was named a 2013 Missouri 4-H Foundation Naomi Crouch Leadership Awardee on March 15 in Columbia.   • Poverty Simulation

    Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) and the Van-Far School District have scheduled a Poverty Simulation event for April 10, 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Van-Far High School gymnasium. The event will be open to the public free of charge.   • Agape House elects officers

    The annual election of officers of The Agape House of Vandalia board was conducted at the regular meeting March 19.  They include:  President/executive director, Veanna Snodgrass; vice-president, Floy Oliver; secretary, Janet Heim; treasurer, Karen Holbrook, and assistant treasurer, Anne Barnes. In other business the board learned that 50 guests, including 8 children, had stayed at the guest house in February.  House manager, Doris Donoho, reported there were no maintenance problems.

  • Ralls County to receive grant

    Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie reported that the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office received a $9,000 grant from the Department of Public Safety to purchase a digital repeater system to extend sheriff’s office radio coverage into the extreme eastern portion of Ralls County. This grant will complement a $58,000 grant that the sheriff’s office recently received allowing the purchase of a new primary digital repeater, new digital mobile radios for each patrol vehicle,
