Locals inducted into Hall of Fame

“Making the best better” for generations of 4-H’ers, 54 people joined the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame on August 9 at the State Fair Community College campus in Sedalia. Inductees from 41 counties bring with them a total of 1,566 years of volunteer service to the hall of fame. More than 300 family members and friends attended the eighth annual event for which citizens nominated 4-H’ers for outstanding volunteer work

    Vandalia’s Paige Dameron gives a “Pulled Pork in a Crock Pot” demonstration at the Missouri State Fair.

    Paige Dameron, of Vandalia, demonstrated “Pulled Pork in a Crock Pot” in the 4-H Building at the Missouri State Fair. She placed third in her age group. Dameron was one of 300 youth selected to give a demonstration  at the Missouri State Fair. These demonstrations are a popular and free attraction at the fair.     There were several winners in a variety of contests held during the annual Martinsburg Picnic held August 15-16. The event was hosted by the Modern Woodmen of America Camp No. 2556. R-VI FFA hosts Food for America event

Audrain County R-VI Chapter and Greenhand Officers planned a Christmas themed Food For America program for Kindergarten-5th grade classes at Community R-VI Elementary School. FFA members taught elementary students about Christmas tree production, then created Christmas tree snow globes in mason jars. Officers plan a monthly program for the elementary students to educate them about different areas of agriculture, ranging from food production, commodities, plant science, and animal science.

    A Winter Music Program featuring Community R-VI Middle and High School students was held last Tuesday night inside the new gym. The program took place under the direction of Eva Eikel and Rose Wilburn.     Van-Far’s 6th grade band students perform.

    The Van-Far Elementary School 5th and 6th grade students presented “North Pole Exposure” on Monday, December 16 in the gymnasium. The 6th grade band opened with “Jingle Bells” and the 6th grade choir performed a “Jolly Jingle Christmas” medley. The “North Pole Exposure” play consisted of eight scenes.
