The Susanna Randolph Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) held a Patriots’ Day Celebration this past Sunday, April 19 at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia.     Community R-VI teacher Brandon Westlake has been selected as one of 25 teachers nationwide to receive a prestigious scholarship to the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The scholarship gives Westlake the opportunity to study U.S. History in Dallas, Texas from July 19-25 at the George W. Bush Presidential Library on the Southern Methodist University campus. Many Vandalia area residents woke up to a nice surprise on Christmas Eve when they drove through Vandalia in their vehicles and saw every gas station sign with the price of $1.99 per gallon for unleaded.
