  • Highway 54 closed at Louisiana bridge

    The Illinois Department of Transportation has closed US 54 at the Champ Clark Bridge across the Mississippi River from Louisiana due to flooding.  MoDOT is closing the bridge at Louisiana. Detours are in place. The river continues to rise, so length of closure is undetermined.

    Audrain County R-VI FFA members Trever Hoyt and Bryan Allen recently visited U.S. District Representative Sam Graves in Washington, D.C.

    Two members of the Audrain County R-VI FFA Chapter recently attended the National FFA Organization’s 2014 Washington Leadership Conference on July 8-12.  Members attending included were Bryan Allen and Trever Hoyt. The annual conference focuses on leadership development, personal growth, and community service. Spencer Creek Baptist Church holds VBS

Many youngsters enjoyed a horse belonging to Gary Fowler along with several activities and lessons during Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Spencer Creek Baptist Church in Vandalia on July 16. Sixteen kids and about a dozen workers participated in the one-day event along with the Rev. Bob and Sharon Hoehn.

    Thirty-five tractor drivers braved dusty roads and fresh blacktop to participate in the Annual Rotary Tractor Cruise. The cruise left the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds going east to Amish country. They stopped at Waggler’s Bakery for hot cinnamon rolls and then on to Eicher Brothers Cabinet Shop for a tour.
