The Vandalia High School Class of 1943 held their 70th Class Reunion on June 1 at the Heritage Cafe. There were eight classmates attending. Two members, Nell Fern Aderton Dueser and Charles Forgy, attended all 12 years together. After a delicious lunch, the classmates enjoyed sharing memories of grade school and high school. The six children and several grandchildren of Phoebe Ruth (Woodson) Ferguson Law recently gathered in Vandalia to celebrate the 90th birthday of their mother and grandmother. Phoebe was born on April 25, 1923 to James M. and Katie (Wagner) Woodson and was raised in the Estes community south of Vandalia. She became a Christian at the age of 7 when she was baptized in a creek near the same community.

In their regular meeting May 21, board members of Agape House of Vandalia were informed of the receipt of a grant of $1,000 from (St. Louis Baseball) Cardinals Care. The grant is to be used to benefit children; as in the past, this grant will be used to purchase fuel gift cards from local service stations and given to families bringing children to visit relatives in the state correctional facilities
As part of Audrain Medical Center’s merger with SSM Health, AMC is building a new chapel in the hospital. According to the draft minutes of the AMC Board of Trustees May 23 meeting, the Catholic chapel is slated to be completed by Oct. 11.
