R-VI FFA hosts Food for America event

Audrain County R-VI Chapter and Greenhand Officers planned a Christmas themed Food For America program for Kindergarten-5th grade classes at Community R-VI Elementary School. FFA members taught elementary students about Christmas tree production, then created Christmas tree snow globes in mason jars. Officers plan a monthly program for the elementary students to educate them about different areas of agriculture, ranging from food production, commodities, plant science, and animal science.

    A Winter Music Program featuring Community R-VI Middle and High School students was held last Tuesday night inside the new gym.     Van-Far’s 6th grade band students perform.

    The Van-Far Elementary School 5th and 6th grade students presented “North Pole Exposure” on Monday, December 16 in the gymnasium. The 6th grade band opened with “Jingle Bells” and the 6th grade choir performed a “Jolly Jingle Christmas” medley. The “North Pole Exposure” play consisted of eight scenes.     The Van-Far Elementary School 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students presented “Twinkle and Shine” on Tuesday, December 10 in the gymnasium. The play consisted of five scenes.   • More than $1,000 raised for foster kids

    Benita Embree helped wrap gifts that were collected at the Foster Children Christmas event on December 7 at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds.

    Thanks to the generous support of the community on December 7 at the Vandalia Fairgrounds, coordinators Michael and Audra Evans were able to raise more than $1,000 in money and toys. Those that attended the fundraising event enjoyed hot soup and a visit from Santa Claus. The proceeds collected will benefit foster kids in Audrain, Marion, Monroe, and Ralls counties.
