Van-Far and Community R-VI hold Christmas events

Van-Far’s 2nd-4th graders perform Several Vandalia area residents packed into the Van-Far Elementary gymnasium last Thursday evening for the 2nd-4th grade Christmas Concert. The evening began with “The Little Snowflake” (2nd grade), “Our Good Dr. Hunter Looked Out” (3rd grade), and “Snow Day” (4th grade). “Flakes!,” a musical celebration of snow, slush, and snirt followed with 2nd-4th grade students.   • King and Queen of Trojan Crowning

    This year’s Trojan Crowning winners were both freshmen at Community R-VI, as they were crowned last Friday night. Bethany Schmidt was crowned queen and Cordell Hollensteiner won king. The other candidates included sophomores Kylee Windmann and Isiah Tadlock; juniors Courtney Bertels and Collin Dungan; and seniors Dana Schulte and Bryan Allen.

  • Santa Claus visits Farber FD

    Santa Claus visited the Farber Firehouse on Saturday, December 13 and spent time with many area families. Hot chocolate and cookies were also served. The event was sponsored by the Farber Fire Department, First Responders, and the Fire Department Auxiliary.   • R-VI celebrates Christmas at the O.K. Corral

    Community R-VI Elementary School students presented “Christmas at the O.K. Corral” last Thursday, December 4 inside the old gymnasium. The setting was the Old West as the O.K. Corral is near the small town of Snowy Gulch and it is Christmas. Scene 1 (Christmas in the West) featured grades K-5. Scene 2 was called “Bubble Gum Bart” with grades 2,3, and 5. A “Sticky Situation” was presented in Scene 3

  • Pike County volunteers enjoy annual Christmas Party

    The Pike County Health Department, Home Health, and Hospice held its annual hospice Volunteer Christmas Party and dinner at Saints Avenue Café this past Tuesday. Approximately 35 volunteers and guests were in attendance. Volunteer Chip Traynor gave the blessing prior to the meal.   • Santa Claus makes stop in Farber

    Several Farber area kids received a special visit from Santa Claus last Saturday at the Farber Community Building. The event, hosted by Farber Community Betterment, began at 5 p.m. with the reading of the “Real Story of Christmas”. A tree lighting outside was canceled due to the chilly temperatures but a tree inside was plugged in to set the scene for Santa Claus. He arrived to take photos with kids

  • Salmon display at Fairgrounds

    The Ben Salmon Christmas Display is currently open for viewing from 5-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 5-10 p.m. Friday-Sunday at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds. Most of the displays are the original work of the late Ben Salmon. A video of Salmon’s display from when he was alive is currently available for viewing on The Vandalia Leader’s Facebook page. The display is hosted by the Vandalia Area Fair Association.
