Clithero recognized for 50 years of Masonic service

On Tuesday, August 19, Vandalia Masonic Lodge No. 491 honored Louis B. (Benny) Clithero for being a 50 member of the lodge. Brother Clithero was pinned by his son David, of Columbia, and was presented his certificate by District Deputy Grand Master Tim Turco, of Louisiana. Bennie was initiated on February 1964; passed on April 21, 1964 and was raised on June 13, 1964.

    Three area teachers were recognized for receiving mini-grants  at th Audrain County Farm Bureau’s Annual Meeting held August 21 in Mexico. Guest Speaker Diane Olson presented the awards. Olson is the Director of Promotion and Education Programs for the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation.     “Making the best better” for generations of 4-H’ers, 54 people joined the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame on August 9 at the State Fair Community College campus in Sedalia. Inductees from 41 counties bring with them a total of 1,566 years of volunteer service to the hall of fame. More than 300 family members and friends attended the eighth annual event for which citizens nominated 4-H’ers for outstanding volunteer work

    Vandalia’s Paige Dameron gives a “Pulled Pork in a Crock Pot” demonstration at the Missouri State Fair.

    Paige Dameron, of Vandalia, demonstrated “Pulled Pork in a Crock Pot” in the 4-H Building at the Missouri State Fair. She placed third in her age group. Dameron was one of 300 youth selected to give a demonstration  at the Missouri State Fair. These demonstrations are a popular and free attraction at the fair.   • Martinsburg celebrates with Picnic

    There were several winners in a variety of contests held during the annual Martinsburg Picnic held August 15-16. The event was hosted by the Modern Woodmen of America Camp No. 2556.     Abilene Gatson, 17, of Vandalia, received Grand Champion Hampshire Ewe in the FFA Breeding Show at the 2014 Missouri State Fair on August 9. Abilene is the daughter of Adam and Julie Gatson and is a senior at Van-Far High School. Abilene is pictured with Britton Francis.

  • Middletown holds reunion

    The Outhouse Races were held at the 122nd Middletown Reunion held this past weekend.

    Several area residents enjoyed this past Saturday’s 122nd Annual Reunion with the theme “Picnic Pride that is Middletown Wide.” The Grand Marshalls of this year’s parade were Keith and Terri Thomas.
