Since 2007, residents in the Vandalia area have enjoyed the features and services of the Vandalia Area Aquatics Center located in Vandalia, Mo.
The Vandalia Family Aquatic Center is located in Tri-County Park, which features a paved walking trail, tennis court, kids playground filled with equipment, and two shaded pavilions.
The $1.5 million project was paid for with some of the $350,000 Jordan-Waters Fun and extension of the half cent sales tax.
The pool holds 214,000 gallons of water and has depth ranging from 0-13.5 feet.
It includes a zero depth entry or exit, pelican slide for kids ages 2-6, sunshade with a seat, mushroom where water comes over the outside and provides a good place to col off for kids, and a therapy bench. The therapy bench is under sunshade with five jets for use by senior patrons.
There are also three meter and one meter diving boards, swim lanes, and a small deck slide for kids ages 5-12.
The bathhouse features warm showers. A concession stand is also available that serves a variety of food items, candy, water, and ice cream. It also includes a quality area for rest.
Guards are always on duty when the center is open.
During the seasonal months its open for, which are typically May-August, the center offers aquacize classes for senior citizens and swimming lessons for youngsters.
