Staff ready for school year at St. Joseph

The St. Joseph Early Learning Center in Martinsburg, Mo., is preparing for a new school year under the direction of Mrs. Kirsten Huff. Mrs. Huff is from Wellsville, and has been with the Early Learning Center since August 2012, at which time she began teaching in the 4-5 year-old classroom.   • Laddonia Library Summer Program visits Avery’s

    The Laddonia Library Summer Program toured Avery’s Floor Mats on July 31. Kristen Greenplate conducted the tour. At the beginning, fork-lift trucks moved the rolls of carpet. The floor mats are hand cut. Every step of the floor mat process was demonstrated. At the end of the tour, refreshments of juice and cookies were served in the break room. Hand made bookmarks were given to each person at the tour.

  • Area residents excel early at State Fair

    Abilene Gatson, 17, of Vandalia, received Grand Champion Hampshire Ewe in the FFA Breeding Show at the 2014 Missouri State Fair on August 9. Abilene is the daughter of Adam and Julie Gatson and is a senior at Van-Far High School. Abilene is pictured with Britton Francis.

Through early Monday morning, several competitors have earned top five finishes there.   • Library honors Summer students

    Ennis Childs receives the grand prize of a tablet from the “Fizz Boom” Reading Program at the Vandalia Library from Librarian Crystal McCurdy.

    Several children were recognized last week for their participation in the Vandalia Library’s Summer Reading Program. Students received a “Fizz Boom” bag and books as prizes. Vandalia’s Ennis Childs was the program’s grand prize winner, who won a tablet.     The 2014 Ralls County Fashion Revue was a great success. The judging was held at the Ralls County Courthouse on the evening of July 10 where the contestants modeled the outfits they have constructed or purchased.
