Community R-VI hires new elementary principal

The Community R-VI School Board held a busy meeting when it met last Wednesday in Laddonia. According to the approved meeting minutes, a quorum wasn’t met until 7:43 after four board members arrived at the meeting. After the agenda was amended, consent items and July bills were approved.   • Audrain County R-VI FFA students visit Washington D.C.

    Audrain County R-VI FFA members Trever Hoyt and Bryan Allen recently visited U.S. District Representative Sam Graves in Washington, D.C.

    Two members of the Audrain County R-VI FFA Chapter recently attended the National FFA Organization’s 2014 Washington Leadership Conference on July 8-12.  Members attending included were Bryan Allen and Trever Hoyt. The annual conference focuses on leadership development, personal growth, and community service. More than 2,200 students from throughout the U.S. who are FFA members attended one of the conference’s seven week-long sessions in June and July. Audrain County R-VI

  • Several maintenance projects reported at Van-Far R-I meeting

    The Van-Far R-I School Board and administration during last week’s board meeting.

    Van-Far Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hunter gave a detailed report on Summer maintenance projects in the district at the school board meeting held last Thursday night. Dr. Hunter reported the following, this according to board minutes: • Awnings at the elementary and high school locker room ceilings have been painted. • Storage area beside the Vo-Ag Department has been cleared and graveled. • The high school gym floor has been refinished.

  • Parrott honored

    Debra Parrott, of Vandalia, Mo., has been named the 2014 Distinguished Scholar in Accounting at William Woods University. The faculty of various disciplines at William Woods have the opportunity each spring to designate one graduating senior as a Distinguished Scholar. A minimum grade-point average of 3.4 is required, but the faculty may consider other relevant academic factors and variables in the selection process.

  • Community R-VI principal resigns

    A surprise resignation in the Community R-VI School District has forced the School Board to move quickly in filling an administrative position by the start of the 2014-2015 school year. Community R-VI Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson has resigned her position. The board voted to accept it during a Special Session Executive Meeting on Wednesday, July 7. Community R-VI Superintendent Cheryl Mack said the position is posted and some applications received

  • Local R-VI student goes to 4-H State

    Audrain Co. 4-H Member Katie Carline, Martinsburg attended State 4-H Congress.

    Youth from every corner of the state gathered on the University of Missouri campus May 28-30 for the 69th annual State 4-H Congress.  In all, 294 teens ages 14-18 participated in a variety of hands-on workshops that fit their interests.  Choices ranged widely, from leadership development to acting, writing, and meteorology. “4-H is about building life skills,” said Stephanie Femrite, 4-H Youth Specialist.  “State 4-H Congress helps teens develop important
