Parrott honored

Debra Parrott, of Vandalia, Mo., has been named the 2014 Distinguished Scholar in Accounting at William Woods University. The faculty of various disciplines at William Woods have the opportunity each spring to designate one graduating senior as a Distinguished Scholar. A minimum grade-point average of 3.4 is required, but the faculty may consider other relevant academic factors and variables in the selection process.

  • Community R-VI principal resigns

    A surprise resignation in the Community R-VI School District has forced the School Board to move quickly in filling an administrative position by the start of the 2014-2015 school year. Community R-VI Elementary Principal Natalie Gibson has resigned her position. The board voted to accept it during a Special Session Executive Meeting on Wednesday, July 7. Community R-VI Superintendent Cheryl Mack said the position is posted and some applications received

  • Local R-VI student goes to 4-H State

    Audrain Co. 4-H Member Katie Carline, Martinsburg attended State 4-H Congress.

    Youth from every corner of the state gathered on the University of Missouri campus May 28-30 for the 69th annual State 4-H Congress.  In all, 294 teens ages 14-18 participated in a variety of hands-on workshops that fit their interests.  Choices ranged widely, from leadership development to acting, writing, and meteorology. “4-H is about building life skills,” said Stephanie Femrite, 4-H Youth Specialist.  “State 4-H Congress helps teens develop important

  • Students tour fisheries and alpaca ranch

    On Tuesday, June 17, Ralls County Soil and Water Conservation District, (SWCD) sponsored a field trip for Ralls RII Pre-K through 2nd grade to Curryville Fisheries. Mr. Ted Werenski allowed students to learn casting and he explained the steps taken to raise fish for the market. The annual field trips are for summer school students.   • Van-Far hires a new teacher

    In a special Executive Session Board of Education meeting held  last Thursday, the Van-Far board voted to hire Jennifer M. Purk as an elementary teacher for the 2014-2015 school year. Board members Pete Nasir, Jim Hopke, Greg Frost, and Kevin Motley were present for the meeting. Christy Nelson, Larry Wheeler, and Kimber Nation were unable to attend.
