State transportation to take on few projects

Missouri’s investment in its roads and bridges continues to shrink, and that means fewer projects to keep them in good condition. As it does each year, the Missouri Department of Transportation has released its draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for public review and comment.     Many Vandalia area residents woke up to a nice surprise on Christmas Eve when they drove through Vandalia in their vehicles and saw every gas station sign with the price of $1.99 per gallon for unleaded.     As Missourians are preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving and holiday shopping on Black Friday, MoDOT is taking steps to help keep traffic moving.   • River bridge to close Oct. 20-24

    A third postponement of the maintenance closure of the Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana was issued this week after a string of storms started moving through the area.
