Live band, new events on tap for this year’s Farber Fun Fest

This year’s Farber Fun Fest features the annual Little Mr./Little Miss contest on Friday night. Last year’s winners were Little Miss Madison Vaughan and Little Mr. Lucas Lovell.

Farber residents are getting ready to having cars line their streets with those attending this year’s Farber Fun Fest scheduled for Friday-Saturday, August 2-3 at Sportsman Park.
This year’s event features bounce houses, several new events, and the live band “Robot Coffee Break”
Known for their “unconventional jam” the band “Robot Coffee Break” is scheduled to play live music from 8 p.m.-midnight.
Their sound features electric violin, tribal percussion, along with electric and acoustic guitars. They feature tracks on everyone from Johnny Cash to Sublime and original blues and folk tunes.
The group is based out of Columbia, Mo.
This year’s event also includes the Catapulting of Maters contest. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative launcher and best launch of tomatoes, which will be used for projectiles. Teams will get seven minutes to complete three launches.
Launching machines can be made of safe materials not costing more than $50.
The rules are the same as those from the Vandalia Area Fair’s contest in late June.
With the help of the person who once ran the Missouri State Fair contest, Farber will be hosting a Super Farmer event.
Participants will test their speed and skill during contests like gate hanging, nail driving, bale throwing, and a relay event.
Teams feature one male and one female. There is a small fee for participating in the event while cash prizes will be awarded. Michael Evans is in charge of the event.
Like this year’s Vandalia Fair, an Egg Drop Contest will also be held.
On day one, the Little Mr. and Little Miss contest for kids ages 3-5 will start at 6 p.m. with a registration time of 5:30 p.m. Lynn Flowers and Brandie Gay are the chairpersons.
Kim Haynie will run the Ice Cream Social starting at 6:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., the Missouri Farm Pullers will be featuring several tractor classes as well as four wheel drive trucks.
Lucky Party starts at 7:30 p.m. during the same time kids participate in a Beach Party featuring kids games and a Luau. Justin Franke and Gay are the chairpersons.
Throughout day two, there will be two bounce houses, a dunking booth, a poultry poop contest, and a 50/50 raffle. Winners of the raffle must be present at 9 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday to win.
At 9 a.m., a 3-on-3 basketball tournament starts. There is a $35 pre-entry fee. Destiny Orf and Trisha Kampeater are the chairpersons.
The Pet Show also starts at 9 a.m. with a welcome and parade following at 10 a.m.
The Baby Show for ages 0 up to 36 months begins at 11 a.m.. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. and Flowers teams with Gay as the chairpersons.
Also at 11 a.m., the Catapulting of Maters as well as the Sand Volleyball Co-Ed tournament begins. Kevin Williams is the contact person for this year’s Horseshoe Tournament that begins at 12:30 p.m.
With registration starting at 12:30 p.m., the Pedal Tractor Pull will begin and is under the direction of Paul and Cindy Evans. Tricycle Races follow.
Heather Null will lead a Cake and Junk Food Walk starting at 1:30 p.m.
The Egg Drop Contest begins at 2 p.m. while the Farber All-School Reunion will be held at the library from 2-4 p.m.
The 3 p.m. Super Farmer Contest is followed by Waters Wars at the Farber Christian Church.
Depot Tours and a Farber History Display begins at 5 p.m.
The Garden Tractor Pull will then be held under the direction of the Montgomery County Garden Pullers Association. Ed Babb is the track coordinator.
Tony Shade is the chairperson for this year’s Annual Car, Truck,  Motorcycle Cruise-In with featured music starting at 6 p.m. The Car Show Awards will be distributed at 7:30 p.m.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and attend the whole weekend.
Food Stand proceeds will benefit community project. The two-day event is sponsored by the Farber Lions Club, CBC, and fire department. All information is subject to chain.
