Van-Far graduate and current Westminster College standout Kasey Gatson teamed up with legendary basketball coach Tom Barr to offer basketball lessons July 15-17 at Van-Far High School.
Fifteen players worked on correct shooting form, lots of advanced ball handling drills, and finishing layups.
β€œIt was really rewarding to return to Van-Far and teach these kids the importance of dedication and consistent hard work,” Gatson said.
β€œ…If they can discipline themselves to do things correctly, their ceiling of potential raises greatly.”
Gatson will be a sophomore at Westminster College in Fulton where she plays for the defending conference champion Lady Bluejays. She was a two-time first team all-district selection in high school.
Barr leads instructional sessions like this one year round, mostly in the West Plains area and throughout southwest Missouri. He is originally from Wellsville.
Barr has retired after 36 years of coaching with 16 years on the high school level and 20 years on the collegiate level.
His collegiate experience includes stops at Three Rivers Community College and SMSU-West Plains.
