Fair underway, much more to come this week
Packed tightly on trailers and box trucks as the carnival caravan rolled onto the Vandalia Area Fair facility south of town, it only took a couple of hours to transform the cargo into bright lights and a collection of carnival rides and games.
To contrast that, it takes the fair board countless hours and basically a year of varied activities to foot the bill and prepare for the annual fair which opened Tuesday evening.
Monday afternoon and into Tuesday, fair board members and other volunteers were putting the finishing touches to the grounds in preparation for the crowd of thousands which will attend through Saturday.
Everything from tractors, dirt bikes and music to events and activities for the youngsters is on the agenda.
Camille Sanders will perform with special guest Ronnie Huckaby of George Strait’s “Ace In The Hole Band” at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 28.
Sanders is a 17-year-old singer from Concan, Texas. She plays guitar, piano, mandolin, ukulele, and the fiddle. Huckaby has been with Strait for 31 years and is the legend’s band leader and pianist.
Other entertainment acts include Frankford’s Heather Buchanan accompanied by Whilly Phillips, contemporary Christian singers “Little” John Foster & Clearwater, Jamie Franke & Friends with a Gospel and Country Jam Session, 15-year-old country music singer Madison Stuart, and singers representing the Van-Far Alumni & Friends.
Don’t forget to head to the fair all this week! The rest of the story, as well as pictures, are available inside this week’s Leader.
