After local ALCO officials announced the Vandalia location would close in 90 days last week, ALCO’s corporate office announced its official statement this past week.
“The decision to close the store in Vandalia was a difficult one,” said Sr. Vice-President for Store Operations Ricardo Clemente. “We have valued the opportunity to be a part of this community, but unfortunately the store’s performance does not meet our financial requirements. The economy has clearly had an impact on store sales, and we’ve made the very difficult decision to close.”
Clemente said employees of the Vandalia store will have the opportunity to be considered for positions at other ALCO stores.
Beginning this past Monday, June 17, the store marked down prices on many items prior to its closing date, which is anticipated by August 26.
“This is never an easy decision to make and we know it will have an impact on the Vandalia community,” Clemente added. “We wish to express our thanks to the many friends that we have served over the past several years and also thank the employees who have served our company faithfully during that time.”
The ALCO in Vandalia opened on November 24, 1998.
Current employees at the Vandalia location have been offered an opportunity to transfer to other locations.
Vandalia was one of seven Missouri locations. Stores in Montgomery City and Hermann will remain open.
