V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary met on June 13
The Ladies’ Auxiliary to VFW Post 2173 met on Thursday, June 13, at the post home in Vandalia. President Victoria Shaw called the 7 p.m. meeting to order. Opening ceremonies were observed.
The minutes were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was filed. Correspondence read included a donation request from the Assistance League Supporting the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Mexico, Missouri for their 14th Annual Gold Tournament on 10 August 2013. Community Service Chairman Ann Wasson collected hours from members present.
A prospective member’s application is pending.
Buddy Poppy sales totals were announced. Five members of the Brice Happy Hustlers 4-H Club helped with the placement of flags at the local cemeteries for Memorial Day. They were Paul Schambach, Tyler Schambach, Dalton Buie, Dakota Buie, and Parker Wallace. Two flags had been presented to individuals by Chairman Norma Shaw. Five students were recognized and awarded at the closing ceremonies at the Van-Far Elementary School and the Van-Far Junior High School for their participation in the Patriots’ Pen Contest. Lauren Shaw was the first place winner and received a certificate, a medal, and a monetary award. Others students recognized were Paige Dameron, Walker Franke, Mackenzie Kurz, and Shyanne Berry. A donation was made to the Missouri Veterans’ Home in memory of Dean Andrews. The July 14 District Meeting will be hosted by VFW Post 2173 and Auxiliary at the post home in Vandalia.
Closing ceremonies were observed. Members in attendance were Joy Davis, Donna DeTienne, Mary Gramley, Norma Shaw, Victoria Shaw, and Ann Wasson. The next auxiliary meeting is Thursday, July 11, at the post home.
