Phoebe Ruth (Woodson) Ferguson Law
The six children and several grandchildren of Phoebe Ruth (Woodson) Ferguson Law recently gathered in Vandalia to celebrate the 90th birthday of their mother and grandmother.
Phoebe was born on April 25, 1923 to James M. and Katie (Wagner) Woodson and was raised in the Estes community south of Vandalia.
She became a Christian at the age of 7 when she was baptized in a creek near the same community.
Phoebe is the epitome of the Proverbs 3:26 woman in which “She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
Her faith greatly influenced her children. Her three sons are Christian ministers, as well as three of her grandsons.
The celebration days included much laughter, fellowship, sharing of memories, and the delight of sharing meals.
Phoebe’s birthday cake was an old fashioned Burnt Carmel cake with Burnt Carmel frosting. An additional joy of the family reunion was the celebration of the 88th birthday of Phoebe’s husband, Harry Law.
Harry’s birthday cake of choice was a “cherry pie.”
