Funeral services for Bill Raufer of Bowling Green were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Tom Hufty officiating. Burial was in the Green Lawn Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the funeral home. Mr. Raufer passed away on April 29, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles.
He was born May 7, 1941, in Pike County to John O. Raufer and Carrie Alberta Vann Raufer. He graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1959 and married Anna Hufty on Sept. 10, 1961, at Peno Baptist Church. She survives. Also surviving is their son, Mark Hufty Raufer of Bowling Green and his wife, Jennifer. Two special granddaughters, Kayla Shaye Raufer Moore and husband Steven of Bowling Green and Morgan Dayne Raufer of Columbia. He is survived by one sister, Barbara Jo Philipps and husband Dave of Jackson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents and three brothers; Jerry Raufer, Phillip Raufer and John Allen Raufer.
Bill accepted Christ when he was 20 years of age and was baptized in Peno Creek. He was a member of Peno Baptist Church. He was employed at Hercules in Louisiana for 36 years and retired from there in 1999. He also farmed and raised cattle most of his life. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs, but most of all spending time with his family and helping others. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Serving as pallbearers were Tim Philipps, Tom Philipps, Jim Ingram, Kenny Scherder, Francis Young, Kent Hufty and Steven Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were Bumper Harold Brown, Alex Harness, David Harness, Joey Philipps, and Billy Harness. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Pike County Home Health and Hospice.
