Van-Far’s Brandon Otis continued the season for another week after he earned all-district honors in the Class 1, District 3 meet held Monday, April 29 at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton.
Otis shot a 102 to finish in a tie for 14th place. Louisiana’s Dylan Smith won the district title with an 82.
Van-Far finished ninth out of 10 teams with a 605. Louisiana won the district title with a 333 while Fayette also qualified with a 394.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better day to play golf,” said Van-Far head golf coach Dane Brooks about the team playing in 80-degree weather with a nice breeze and no clouds in the sky. “This was our first tournament where there was no stroke limit (don’t pick up the ball until it’s in the bottom of the cup.) All the boys gave me everything they had. I was very please with their results.”
Otis will now play at Sectionals held on Monday, May 6 at Heritage Hills in Moberly.
The Van-Far golf team competed in the EMO Conference meet held last week at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton.
Unfortunately, the Indians were not able to leave the course with any all-conference golfers and finished last in the team standings with a 533.
The host squad from North Callaway shot a 326 while Elsberry took second with a 376. Community R-VI finished third with a 415, Silex finished with a 420, Montgomery City and Bowling Green tied for fifth with a 421, and Wright City shot a 447.
“Conference was played on probably the best day we have had yet this Spring,” Brooks said. “Conditions were great other than a little soggy in some spots but other than that great.”
Brandon Otis led the Indians by shooting a 52 on the front nine and a 54 on the bakc nine for a 106. He missed all-conference honors by just three strokes.
Trenton DeTienne shot a 116, Dalton Buie had a 146, and Nick Crow shot a 165.
