Indians baseball drops two games
The wet weather held off just enough last week to help Van-Far’s baseball team play two EMO Conference games. Unfortunately for the Indians, Van-Far lost contests to both Elsberry and Silex.
Van-Far lost their first game 9-2 to Elsberry.
Elsberry held a 3-0 lead early before Van-Far scored their first run in the top of the third.
Ethan Gooch started things with a two-out single. He stole second base and later scored on Wyatt McDowell’s RBI single.
Elsberry pushed their lead to 8-1 in the fifth inning before Van-Far scored their final run in the sixth.
Gooch walked, stole second, then scored on a one-out hit by Logan Boyd. Van-Far finished the game with six hits.
“Considering it was the first time we had been outside for two weeks, it was not a bad game,” said Van-Far head coach Wes Rowden.
Gooch picked up the loss on the mound.
“Ethan walked six and hit two and that hurt him overall,” Rowden said. “But he didn’t throw badly considering the practice time we have had.”
Van-Far scored two runs in their first at-bat against Silex but lost 19-4.
Silex had 11 hits, drew eight walks, and had three hit batters.
“We gave up 19 runs,” Rowden said. “You really can’t say too much about that…”
Boyd hit a two-run home run in the first ining to score Gooch, giving the Indians a 2-0 edge.
Van-Far’s third run came in the third on Brian Kurz’s single, which also scored Gooch.
Gooch scored for the third time in the fifth inning on McDowell’s RBI single. Kyle Decker and Trey Hull also had hits in the game.
