Chapter CE P.E.O enjoyed April 16 meeting
The April 16 meeting of Chapter CE P. E. O. met at The United Methodist Church with hostesses Janie Zimmer, Shirley Morris, and Sharon Lewton.
The hostesses served refreshments of a decorated cake and sherbet punch. The program “Flower Power” was a discussion of gardening hints led by Shirley Morris.
Solutions for gathering gum balls from gum trees, depth of bulb planting, and weed control were given by those present. The chapter cancelled their planned outing to a local nursery due to rainy weather and each member present answered roll call with their favorite flower.
Sharon Lewton, President, presided at the business meeting. Ruth Calcaterra and Loralee Adam reported on the book study discussion held Saturday, April 13 at The Heritage on “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”. It was noted one copy of the book needs to be returned. Teresa Wenzel will lead the next book study discussion of “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel PIe Society”. Teresa will offer both a day time and evening discussion time. Ruth Calcaterra reported on The Defining Moment campaign for an endowment fund for Cottey College at Nevada, Missouri. Each P. E. O. member shares ownership of the college and $29 million dollars has been raised towards the $35 million goal by July 31, 2013.
The next meeting of Chapter CE will be Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. with hostesses Dorothy Cahill, Marcella Bauman, and Jody Bauman. The program “Lean On Me” will be given by the chapter officers and the project report of continuing education will be given by Linda Witte.
