The Community R-VI golf team held their own last week in a tri-meet at Elsberry against larger schools Bowling Green and the host Indians.
While they finished third, the Trojans did shoot a respectable 207. Elsberry won the event with a 195 and Bowling Green shot a 204.
“The windchill made it feel like 35 degrees on Friday and the wind was tough,” said Community R-VI head coach Vicki Briggs. “I don’t see how the kids stood it.”
Caleb Bertels and Chris Wieberg each shot a team-high 48. Sean Wilson shot a 52, Treyton Kobush added a 59, and Bryan Allen shot a 60.
“The three seniors stay very consistent with their scoring, but my younger players seem to be more inconsistent, probably because of the demanding conditions and their lack of experience in them,” Briggs added. “It was a close match, and I think we could’ve done a little better. Caleb said he three putted, four or five greens. We need to finally be able to get on the course to practice, especially the short game.”
