The Audrain County Sheriff’s Department has considered footing up to half the cost for a shared student resource officer (SRO) at the Community R-VI and Van-Far School Districts.
With much of the venture up in the air, the next step will be for the Audrain County Commission to meet with school representatives and figure out the districts’ expectations.
“We would be happy to work out something, and the sheriff would be too,” Audrain County  Presiding Commissioner Steve Hobbs said. “First of all, the schools have to let us know they are interested.”
Hobbs said the commission has not had the opportunity to sit down and suss out the details.
“The main thing is the salaries,” he said. “We realized there would be a lot of work to go into this and make it work.”
Hobbs said part of the difficulty lies on how the Community R-VI and Van-Far School Districts sit outside of city limits.
