DAR honors essay winners

Essay Contest winners and Good Citizens were honored on Sunday, February 24, by the Susanna Randolph chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution at their annual George Washington Birthday Celebration.
Regent Joy Davis led the group attending in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and presented Good Citizen pins to Paige Harris, senior from Community R-VI, and Etha Gooch, senior from Van-Far R-1.
Ruth Miller, Essay Contest chairman, presented certificates to Brian Kurz, first place, Ciara Craven, second place and Brooke Johnson, third place in the Christopher Columbus Essay contest.
Certificates were presented to eighth graders: Alexis DeTienne, first place, Jada Borgmeyer, second place and Cameron Barse, third place; seventh graders: Taryn Adam, first place, Walker Franke, second place and Makenzie Kurz third place; and sixth graders: Jayson Orr, first place and Jordan Garner second place for their winning essays in the American History Essay Contest.
Entertainment, a one-act play, “Martha Washington’s Dream,” was provided by several of the Susanna Randolph members: Teresa Wenzel, Muriel Beshears, Mandi Bryant, Joy Davis, Ann Carter, Sarah Miller and Kimber Nation.
Refreshments were served by the celebration committee: Virginia Howdeshell, Cindy Pirch, Teresa Wenzel and Kathy Mommens.
