Buster Johnson

William D. (Buster) Johnson, 97, of Bowling Green passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.  His remains were donated to the A.T. Still – University of Kirksville Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville per his request.
Memorial services will be held Saturday March 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green, with Dr. Delores Douglas officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
He was born July 4, 1915 to William D. Johnson II and Amelia Johnson (nee Smith) in Bowling Green.  He was the oldest of five children.  Mr. Johnson married Imogene Lawson on June 18, 1939.  To this union one child, Delores, was born.
Buster is survived by his daughter Delores of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Tia Douglas and Jessie (Diana) Douglas of Bowling Green; three great grandchildren, Tasandra (T. J.) of Park Forest, Ill., Deloren of Richton Park, Ill., and Dontaye of Chicago Heights, Ill.; five great- great grandchildren, Demonte, Kajuan, Kidron, Tishari and Gavin; two sisters, Mary Katherine Bridges and Ruth Green of Evanston, Ill.; one nephew, Ben Bridges (Jenna) of Frankford, Ill, and one neice, Audrey LeGrand of Decatur, Ga., and one great nephew, Justin LeGrand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother James; sister Alta Mae; one grandson Loring and one great granddaughter Litisha.
He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Louisiana and attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City.  Buster was a long time employee of the Bowling Green Times and worked 10 years on the railroad.  He worked 32 years for Harbison-Walker Refractories in Vandalia.  After he retired, he filled his time by collecting cans for the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia and faithfully delivered newspapers in the Hi-Rise. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia.
