Van-Far girls fall to Clopton

The Van-Far varsity girls basketball team took a hard 70-25 loss to Clopton on the road Friday, February 8.

“It was a tough game on Friday night,” Van-Far head coach Sarah  Asbury said. “As a team we have been dealing with sickness and have had players out all week. We also didn’t have Kambrie Hartsell, who usually is the first of the bench for the team. We had a tough time breaking their press which gave them easy baskets.”

The Lady Indians were held to three points in the first quarter as the Lady Hawks posted 19. Clopton continued its dominance in the second, adding 15 points for a 34-7 lead at halftime.

“A positive out of the game is that we looked better in the second half when we had the opportunity to run the play and scored more in the third quarter and fourth quarter than we did in the entire first half,” Asbury said.

Van-Far added 10 points in the third to the Lady Hawks’ 22 points, and posted another 10 points in the fourth.

Breanna Strange led the Lady Indians with nine points; Brooke Johnson followed with six points; Ciara Craven added four points; and Annaliese Hubert, Chevi Windland, and Katelyn Allen each chipped in two points.
