Van-Far falls in tourney

Louisiana knocked the Van-Far varsity girls basketball team out of the annual Bowling Green tournament in the second round of play on Wednesday, January 23, with a 53-29 victory.
“We have seen a lot of good things out of the girls recently, we just have not been able to put them together for an entire game,” Van-Far head coach Sarah Asbury said. “The team seems to always come out strong in the first quarter and then they lose momentum throughout the game.”
The Lady Indians held up in the first quarter with Louisiana winning the frame 16-10 but were only able to post three points in the second quarter with the lady Bulldogs up 26-13 at the half.
“The team seems to always come out strong in the first quarter and then they lose momentum throughout the game,” Asbury said.
Van-Far came back from the locker room to lose the third quarter 18-11 and finished the contest being outscored 9-5 in the fourth quarter.
Brooke Johnson led with 10 points; Kambrie Hartsell and Katelyn Allen each chipped in four points; Ciara Craven and Annaliese Hubert each had three points; and Chevi Windland added two.
Falls to Silex
Before the Lady Indians lost to Louisiana, the squad squared up for an eventual 51-12 defeat at the hands of Silex in the first round of tournament play at Bowling Green.
Van-Far won the first quarter 6-5 before its momentum dwindled in the second quarter as Silex posted 20 points, holding Van-Far to four points for a 25-10 edge. Silex continued to dominate in the second half, outscoring the Lady Indians 16-2 in the third quarter and 10-0 in the fourth quarter.
Johnson led with eight points. Hubert and Breanna Strange each added two points.
“We have a long week this week with it being Courtwarming and playing on the road Tuesday and Thursday, and home Friday night for Courtwarming against Wright City,”
Asbury said. “We are still looking for improvements at each and every game. It is important for us to come out strong every quarter and I am looking for that in the girls this week.”
