Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, announced the successful completion of a turnkey facility improvement project with the Van-Far R-I School District in Vandalia, Mo. The project began as the result of a partnership with the district more than two years ago, which was established by a bond passed by the city to support structural and mechanical improvements in the district’s two facilities. With the completion of more than $1.3 million in renovations, the bond commitments have been fulfilled on time and within budget, providing the Van-Far School District with safer and more efficient buildings.

In April 2012, the community, with the support of Schneider Electric, passed the order for bond funds to complete the Van-Far R-I School District renovations. Since then, Schneider Electric has implemented vital structural and mechanical changes to the elementary and high school buildings. Schneider Electric replaced the high school’s boiler system to improve efficiency and reliability during the heating season. The project also included updating the district’s exteriors to improve their insulation and aesthetic appeal. Finally, Schneider Electric provided key improvements to the facilities’ aging roof structure, working with the school’s maintenance director to prepare the roof for a new remote terminal unit in the coming years and future replacement of the school’s classroom layout. Completed in October, all of the renovations were accomplished within the bond’s guaranteed budget, which was insured by Schneider Electric.

“Schneider Electric played a critical role in securing the bond funds for Van-Far R-I School District renovations and helping us making necessary updates to our facilities,” said Chris Felmlee, superintendent. “They clearly have a vested interest in our community, and the improvements to the elementary and high schools not only meet an immediate need for each facility, but also have laid a foundation for future renovations, taking into account the best interest of our students, staff and faculty.”

“The partnership with the Van-Far R-I School District was tremendously successful,” said Tammy Fulop, vice president of Sales, Energy Solutions, for Schneider Electric. “We worked very hard to make certain that we were meeting the immediate needs of the district to ensure efficient operations of their facilities for years to come.  We hope to continue to support the district in future facility improvements and look forward to continuing our partnership.”

In the past 20 years, Schneider Electric has successfully implemented more than 450 energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs) across the nation and helped clients around the world save close to $1 billion. ESPC helps publicly funded entities make capital improvements over longer payback periods. Funded by third-party financing, ESPC offers many long-term benefits such as improved facility efficiency, occupant comfort, financial management and environmental protection. Typically, new, more efficient equipment and upgraded facility automation systems maximize energy efficiency and generate utility savings.
