Community R-VI’s varsity boys basketball squad sweeped Wellsville 55-37 on the road January 11.
The Trojans edged Wellsville 16-6 in the first quarter and held the Tigers to four points in the second quarter for a 31-10 halftime lead.
Wellsville rallied in the second half but were still outscored 15-13 in the third quarter before winning the final quarter of the game, 14-9.
“It was a decent win,” Community R-VI head coach Dave Smith said. “We didn’t play as well on the defensive end as I wanted.”
Sean Wilson led with 13 points followed by Shane Meyers and Justin Durham at eight points each. Clay and Lane Thebeau each tallied six points; Connor Brooks and Kyle Curtis chipped in four points; Cameron Foreman had three points; and Tyler Mays and Keith Caldwell added two points in the win.
Durham had nine rebounds; Mays had five rebounds; Lane Thebeau had four assists; and Brooks had two steals.
“Everybody got to play and that is always good,” Smith said. “Wellsville is a scrappy bunch and they played hard.”
