Dora Mae (Gore) Clifton, age 84, of Bowling Green, passed away at 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Country View Nursing Facility in Bowling Green, Mo. Visitation was held on Monday, January 14, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the New Harmony Christian Church near Curryville, Mo.
Service was held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the New Harmony Christian Church near Curryville.
Officiating was Pastor Dawn Turner. Music was provided by Deborah Kraft – pianist.
Interment was in the New Harmony Cemetery.
Pallbearers wer Ryan Clifton, Derek Clifton, Matt Parks, Joey Palmer, Allen Staton, and Allan Kraft.
She was born on August 27, 1928 north of Vandalia the daughter of Claude Basil and Lora Mae (Powell) Gore.
She was married to Vernon Merle Clifton on October 21, 1951; he preceded her in death on October 24, 2000.
Dora Mae (Gore) Clifton lived most all her life in rural Vandalia or the New Harmony area. Dora Mae was a 1947 Vandalia High School graduate and member of the New Harmony Christian Church, where she was active in the CWF group. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking, gardening, attending horse shows, playing bingo and had been active in the Peppy Circle 4-H Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; one brother, Powell Gore and one sister, Dorothy Martin. Survivors include one son, Merle L. Clifton and Julie Kendrick of Mexico, Mo.; two daughters, Jane and husband, John Gartman of Bowling Green; Shirley and husband, Stan Geiselman of Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Lindsey Clifton of Columbia; Derek Clifton and Allison Tveitnes of Columbia; Sara and husband, Matt Parks of New London; Hanna and husband, Joey Palmer of Bowling Green; three grandchildren: Luke Parks, Layla Parks and Blake Palmer; also survived by nieces and nephews.
