Annual Christmas Drawing spread possible by advertisers

Once again, I want to personally thank all of the businesses and individuals who sponsored drawings for this year’s Annual Christmas Drawing newspaper section.

The section is not possible with these sponsorship ads and I’m sure the kids and their families will enjoy seeing the artwork on display in this eight page section.

Kudos go to my predecessors for starting this annual tradition. Sponsorship ads also allow The Vandalia Leader to print more than 70 Letters to Santa in the same publication.

This truly makes it a community piece and not many newspapers get the opportunity to do this type of thing during the Christmas season.

So again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support. It did mean several countless hours of work for me this past weekend but it was well worth it.

For fun, check out our new online Christmas video promoting our online classifieds. The video appears before sports highlights on the most recent video posted.

Elementary School Shooting

I think I am like most of my readers in saying that it comes to a point where I just can’t stomach any more of the news that comes out of the shooting in Connecticut.

Most of us know what happened by now and I just can’t bring myself to bring up any more details from the horrific tragedy.

Please be sure to hug your loved ones a little closer this Christmas season and also be sure to take time to get on your knees and pray for the families affected by this awful event.

Out of this tragedy has spun what will be a long debate regarding the Second Amendment.

While there may indeed be laws passed regarding certain types of firearms, please also be in prayer that our leaders make wise decisions that do not take away from the freedoms our veterans have put their lives on the line to protect.

Pray any changes that are made do not hinder our rights because if one right is taken away, what will the next one be?

This will be a heated national dialogue in the weeks to come. Be sure to stay informed and contact your elected officials to express your support for or against potential Second Amendment changes.Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
