Deer in roadway leaves one injured

A Mexico woman suffered serious injuries after an attempt to miss a deer led to a rolled vehicle late Monday, December 3.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Garey Reeves, age 27, of Mexico, was driving eastbound with passenger, Tara Hilgar, age 26, of Mexico, on Route FF about half a mile from Audrain County Road 935 when he swerved to miss a deer at about 10:45 p.m.

The patrol reported Reeves’ 1993 Ford Explorer then ran off the left side of Route FF, struck a culvert, and rolled over.

With extensive damage to the vehicle, Hilgar sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Audrain Medical Center by ambulance. She was reportedly not using a “safety device.”

Reeves, who was using a safety device, denied medical attention at the scene.
