Blake F. Carter, age 83, of Versailles, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born November 4, 1928, in Peoria, Ill. the son of the late Raymond F. and Dorothy Blake Carter.
On December 13, 1953, in DePue, Ill., he was united in marriage to Helen Louise Van Cleave, who survives the home.
In his early years, he was active in the Peoria Players and Orpheaus Club singing groups.
Blake received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois. In 1969, he received his Professional Engineer Degree from West Virginia University. In 1988, he received his certification to teach high school mathematics from the University of Missouri St. Louis.
He worked as the quality control director at CE Refractories in Mexico, Missouri and at Corhart Refractories in Buckhannon, W.V. He also taught mathematics in Silex, Missouri.
Some of Blake’s other achievements include participating in the York Chorus in York, Pennsylvania and singing solos in the Messiah for the St. Louis Bach Symphony and Chorale. He always enjoyed sharing his talent and singing in church choirs.
Blake enjoyed hiking and camping with his sons when they were growing up. He took pride in watching them mature, and was very proud of his role to help shape the men they are today.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his two sons, Bruce Carter and wife Beth of Leawood, Kan. and Mark Carter and Mario Martinez of Essex, Vt.; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Carter of Versailles; seven grandchildren, Bryan Carter and wife Crystal, Gregory, Michelle, Bridget, William, Olivia and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Maya; his sister, Helen Graham and husband Warren of Peoria, Ill.; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Blake Carter.
