The Vandalia Area Chamber of Commerce confirmed the group won’t be spearheading the annual “Hometown Christmas” this year.
Chamber President Kyle Fischer said a lack of business interest and support over the last few years had in part influenced the decision.
With no event chair, Fischer said scarce planning personnel and participation also aided in the decision not to hold the event.
“Hometown Christmas” is normally held on the Sunday after Thanksgiving every year.
Despite not sponsoring “Hometown Christmas,” chamber members will focus on “Prairie Days” and brainstorm for other future events in the Vandalia area. The chamber holds its meetings at noon on the second Tuesday of the month at Heritage Café. Fischer said the group is always looking for active members with new ideas.
