Lady Trojans win Madison Tourney

The Community R-VI junior high basketball squad reigned as champions of the October 18 Madison Tournament.
The Lady Trojans squashed Marion County 27-8 in the first game of the tournament. Top scorers in the victory were Alissa Curtis with 22 points, who was 6-for-7 from the line, and Danie Jackson with five points and one three-pointer.
For the championship title, Community R-VI knocked off Higbee by a final score of 32-16.
Curtis was back on top for the Lady Trojans with 14 points and 1-for-2 at the line. Lexus LeGasse put up eight points. Chelsea Hoyt had four assists. Community R-VI had 10 steals and 13 defensive rebounds.
“All of the girls played well through both games and we were very excited to take first place,” said Holly Gemes, Lady Trojans’ head coach.
Community R-VI fell to New Bloomfield 43-26 on Tuesday, October 16.
Top scorers for the game were Jackson with 12 points, six from three-pointers, and Curtis with 10 points.
“This was our first game and the girls played very well against a more experienced and bigger team,” Gemes said. “I look forward to a very successful year.”
