The Community R-VI Cross Country program met nine teams at the October 8 Hamburger Meet hosted by Clopton.
The meet takes its name from the hamburgers served after athletes complete the course.
Despite the lure of hamburgers, prior engagements and injuries allowed four of the seven-member Community R-VI squad to run at the meet.
Against 24 runners, Leah Mays medaled with an 8th place finish at 22:24, shedding a minute and a half off her previous personal record.
Kaitlin Orr placed 17th at 23:53, a season best for Orr.
The boys team faced 38 runners.
Ryan Kitchen placed 20th with a time of 19:51 and Lance Gibson placed 36th with a time of 24:36.
Community R-VI head coach Kris Cross said Bowling Green provided tough competition for the Community R-VI runners, with Bowling Green earning victories in both the boys and girls meet at Clopton.
“Bowling Green is a tough team to run against with their top five runners, boys and girls, finishing in the top seven places,” Cross said.
“We will still run against them in the next coupled of meets. The cross-county kids are still improving and working hard towards being their best at the district meet.”
