Firefighters battle blaze for hours

A fire on the 600 block of S. Main completely destroyed a 1.5 story home this past weekend.

The Vandalia Fire and Rescue Department responded early Sunday morning to a fire at the address of 605 S. Main resulting in the total loss of a 1.5 story home.
Crews responded to the fire at roughly 12:30 a.m. and battled the blaze until about 7 a.m. The volunteer crew continued to work until about 10:30 a.m. before completely extinguishing the fire.
Two adults were present at the residence at the time of the fire. However, the four children, ranging in ages 6-17, were not home. None of the residents were physically harmed and there is no known cause of the fire.
Volunteers from the American Red Cross Heart of Missouri chapter assisted the family of six with resources to find food, clothing, and temporary shelter.
