The Community R-VI varsity softball program made the record books in its 19-1 obliteration of Montgomery County.
The Lady Trojans tied the state record for the second most walks in a single inning, picking up 15 runs in the first.
“Our offense came out ready to go and our defense and pitching were solid,” said Lady Trojans’ head coach Stacie Carroz. “I am so proud of all the girls. This was a team effort across the board.”
Paige Curtis tossed the first two innings with one hit, zero runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. Danielle Brooks finished the game with one earned run, three walks, and a strikeout.
Paige Harris and Katie Carline had two hits and two RBIs. Harris had two runs scored and Carline had three runs scored.
Monroe City finished the first with force, chalking up nine runs to the Lady Trojans’ one run.
The Lady Panthers pounced again in their final at-bat with five runs for a 17-1 Lady Trojans’ loss.
On the mound, Curtis had 13 hits, 17 runs with nine runs earned, and no walks or strikeouts.
Brooks, Lindsay Gastler, and Paige Harris went 1-for-2 with Gastler having one RBI.
Shutout by Bowling Green
The Lady Trojans held off Bowling Green 1-0 until the fourth when the Lady Bobcats scored five runs, adding another two runs in the fifth on Thursday, September 20 with a final score of 8-0.
Curtis tossed the game with eight hits, eight runs, two walks, and six strikeouts.
Leading hitters were Gastler and Brooks, who both went 1-for-3. Gastler had a triple.
2-1 at the Montgomery County Tournament
Community R-VI had one victory against Montgomery County but suffered two close losses against Hannibal and Christian High School on Saturday, September 22.
The Lady Trojans defeated Montgomery County yet again for a 15-1 victory.
After scoring three runs in the first and second, Community R-VI rallied in the third to put up nine runs.
Curtis tossed the four-inning game with two hits, one earned run, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
Carline had two hits with four RBIs and one run scored. Harris had one hit, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Curtis and Brooks had one hit, two RBIs, and four runs scored.
Community R-VI closed the tournament with a 6-5 loss to Hannibal. Scoreless until the fourth and then trailing 3-1, the Lady Trojans’ final-inning drive came up short by just one run to lose the game.
Curtis had three hits, six runs, five walks, and eight strikeouts in six innings on the mound.
Carline had three hits and one RBI. Gastler and Harris had two hits and one run scored. Gastler had two RBIs and Harris had one RBI.
“Offensively, we got off to a late start,” said Carroz. “We were ahead by one run going into the sixth inning. It was a difficult loss, the girls played hard throughout the game.”
Community R-VI fell 7-4 to Christian High School.
Tied 2-2 after the second, Christian High School came back in the third to lead 4-3, putting up another three runs in the fourth.
Curtis tossed the game with six hits, seven runs — four of which were earned — three walks and eight strikeouts.
“We played very well,” Carroz said. “ Christian had one big inning, offensively.
