Brenda Anne Eskew, 60, of rural Middletown, passed away peacefully at 3:35 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator and friend to many, lost her battle to cancer after a short time.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 22 at the Myers Funeral Home in Middletown. Rev. Jamie Franke will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown. Serving as pallbearers will be Corrie Gaston, Cale Utterback, Andrew McDannold, Kyle Campbell, Kevin Campbell, Krystal DeTienne and Rex Moore. Honorary pallbearer will be Sarah McDannold.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Friday, September 21st at the funeral home.
Brenda was born September 6, 1952, in Mexico, Missouri, a daughter of Bobby Eugene and Clementine Kisor Utterback.
On June 4, 1971, at the First Christian Church in Vandalia, Missouri, by Rev. Glenn Vernon, she married Daryl Dean Eskew. They have lived at their present home since 1978.
Brenda was a 1970 graduate of Bowling Green High School. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville with a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Home Economics in 1974. She started working for Montgomery County R-II School as a Vocational Home Economics Teacher from 1974-78 and 1979-80. She then worked for the Bowling Green R-1 School as a Vocational Home Economics Teacher from 1980-1985.
Brenda completed her Master’s in Education in Educational and Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1986. From 1986-1989, she worked for Van-Far R-1 School as a Jr./Sr. High School Counselor. Brenda then began employment with Bowling Green R-1 School as a High School Counselor from 1989-2009. Most recently, she had worked at Youth in Need Head Start/Early Head Start in Montgomery City as a home visitor and a substitute teacher for Central Missouri Community Action Head Start in Mexico and Community R-VI.
She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Missouri National Education Association, Missouri School Counselor Association, American Counselor Association and the Missouri Home Economics Association.
Brenda was a member of Vandalia First Christian Church for over 50 years. She was a very active member, where she had taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, assisted with “Wee Worship” and in the church nursery.
Brenda had also served on the board for Sonlight Daycare and on the Pulpit Committee. Brenda loved sewing, needle point and embroidery. She also enjoyed baking, cooking and swimming in her pool. Her pride and joy was making memories and spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was very devoted to her family and her church.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Daryl Dean Eskew, of the home in Middletown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan Elliot and Elecia Eskew, of Mexico, Justin Craig and Tara Eskew, of Bowling Green and Jordan Ross Eskew and fiancé, Danielle Barnett, of Mexico; grandchildren, Jace Perry Eskew and Avery Jade Eskew, both of Bowling Green and Eva Destinee Hendren and Bodhi Dean Eskew, both of Mexico; brother, Robert LaVerne Utterback, of Middletown; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly Kay and David McConnell, of Middletown; in addition to nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Clem Utterback; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mervin and Geneva Eskew and grandparents, Willard and Clemma Lee Kisor and Vernie and Ruby Utterback.
