The 36th Annual Vandalia Area Fair kicks off this upcoming Tuesday, July 3 as the week-long event is filled with several events and activities through Saturday, July 7.
A solid list of entertainers headline this year’s Vandalia Area Fair.
The country music band “Ricochet” will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 6. “Richochet” is best known for its No. 1 hit “Daddy’s Money” that was at the top of the R&R and Billboard Charts. They also have a Top-5 hit in “What Do I Know” along with nine other Top-40 hits.
The self-proclaimed “Hardest Working Band in Country Music” is currently celebrating 15 years in the industry.
Kelly Stanford and “The Ambush Band” will open for “Ricochet” at 7 p.m.
On the first night of the Fair, there will be a Country Gospel/Country Jam Session in the pavilion. The session features James Franke, Jerry Breneman, Bobby Hunn, and Wayne Lynn, all of Vandalia. It also includes Shane Carothers of Clarence and Larry Gerdemann of New London.
The first set will be from 6-7 p.m. and followed by the Little Miss and Mr. Contest. The second set will begin after the contest.
Two nights later, “The Chuck Overton Experience” will also be held at 8 p.m. under the pavilion.
Overton is a CBS/RCA Recording Artist, who does Alto Sax and vocals, once toured with Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson. His performance will also geature Blues recording artist Big Babe Martin, lead guitar and vocals. Martin played with Albert King and James “Smitty” Smith on bass of the Chump Change Blues Band of Columbia. CD’s will be available for sale.
“The Vandalia Area Fair Association is excited to bring this lineup to the 2012 Vandalia Fair,” said Fair board member Teresa Stuart. “Each year the Vandalia Area Fair Association strives to fulfill your request to make the Fair better than the year before. The community has been asking to bring more musical entertainment to the Vandalia Fair. We hope the community will support our decision by coming out for an evening or two…We hope to see you there.”
Tractor Pull fans will also be happy with this year’s Vandalia Area Fair as three different nights will feature the event.
The Missouri Farm Pullers Truck/Tractor Pull is slated for July 3, the MoSAC-TPA Tractor Pull is set for July 5, and the MMTTPA Truck and Tractor Pull will be held on Saturday, July 7.

Many of the same events scheduled in past years are currently set on the tentative schedule expected to be finalized by the end of this week.
Among the notable actitivities include the Fair Parade at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, the Horse and Pony Fun Show, Little Mr. and Miss contest, Midwest Cowboys Rodeo Company’s Rodeo on the 4th of July, Baby Show, Motocross, baking contests, Scope Science Display, and the annual Mud Pig Catch.
To participate in the sheep riding and the sheep scramble for the rodeo, those interested are encouraged to call 573-470-2463 between 6-10 p.m. on June 25.
