Agape House gets new member
Edith Westmoreland of Bowling Green joined the board of directors of Agape House of Vandalia during the August 19 meeting. Westmoreland is a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and holds part-time employment in Hannibal.
In other business, the manager’s report indicated there were 97 guests, including 28 children, at the house in July.
Plans were announced for the annual cleanup day. Five to six offenders from WERDCC and their supervisors will be at the house on September 24. Lunch is to be provided by women of Curryville Presbyterian Church.
Kay Robnett and Carlene Galloway will represent the facility at both the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce event August 26 and United Way of Audrain County kick off open house September 11.
Further plans were announced for the tenth anniversary and open house to be held on Sunday, October 12 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Former board members and managers, construction team, and donors will be sent invitations with the annual newsletter in September. The open house will include a brief program at 2:30 p.m. Tours will be available to the public all afternoon.
Janet Heim reported guest number 6,000 had stayed at the house August 2. Floy Oliver will interview the guest and then prepare a news article to be shared with newspapers from the 53 Missouri counties from which guests have come in the past year. The guest comes from the St. Louis area and visits her fiancé weekly. She has appreciated the affordability, safety and shared fellowship while staying at Agape House.
Board members in attendance were Alberta Cropp, Galloway, Heim, Karen Holbrook, Sterling Holbrook, Elwood LaRue, Robnett, Veanna Snodgrass, and Westmoreland.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, at 4 p.m.
