Alarming number of illegal immigrant children reported in U.S.

Recently, thousands of illegal immigrant children have crossed the Texas border into the U.S. and there have been stories nationwide as to where they might end up.
While it’s still uncertain how this situation will be addressed, this is only one of many cases that have already occurred like it since January 1, 2014 that many U.S. citizens haven’t heard about.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website, in relation to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (http://www.acf.hhs.gov/), 30,340 unaccompanied children have been released throughout the 50 states since the first of the year.
According to the website, Missouri has had 121 children turned over to sponsors, who might be a parent or relative, that can care for a child while his/her immigration case can be processed.
While the HHS claims the child is going to live with family, that is not always the case.
Unfortunately, there are no raw statistics to show just how many of these sponsors are family members.
Add to it the lack of paperwork being filed while these children are in the U.S. illegally, and the result is an immigration mess.
In Tennessee, there have been 760 children turned over to sponsors, causing their Governor Bill Haslam to be upset with the government for not even giving his office a notification there are that many illegal children in his state since January 1.
“I still have not been contacted and have no information about these individuals or their sponsors other than what was posted on the HHS website,” he wrote in a letter to President Barack Obama.
When recently quizzed about the thousands of immigrant children who recently were left at the border, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters that the illegal immigrant children “have a right to privacy.” He said “privacy rights of the illegals are more important than the public’s right to know what’s happening.”
The Department of Homeland Security predicts 60,000 minors will cross the border this year and the number will double next year.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been releasing children with a condition of them needed to contact ICE for their next court day once they reach their destination.
Of course, ICE is taking these folks at their word and failure to comply means they’re in the country illegally with no follow-up documentation in many cases.
Several of these kids are reaching the borders after their family members have paid human traffickers that are connected to Mexican drug cartels in order to get the kids smuggled into the country.
An article written in “Town Hall” by Katie Pavlich summed it up: “Current ICE policies not only embolden law breakers, but destroy the argument that children brought here illegally can stay without guaranteeing amnesty for their parents. It’s a well thought out strategy: get the kids over the border, the U.S. won’t deport them because they fall under current DREAMer policies, and then eventually, parents of those kids will also be able to live in the U.S. illegally because ICE doesn’t want to ‘break up families.’ We already have an illegal immigration crisis, it just became much worse.”
While my heart aches for these kids, I think it’s also important that our government do what it takes to protect our nation and its borders.
Unfortunately, it is not. Texas Governor Rick Perry recently requested for about 1,000 National Guard troops to protect its state’s border due to the U.S. government’s failure to respond adequately.
When the U.S. government takes this action, the troops are not able to detain and arrest illegals. But since the state is taking the action, they now can.
This should be an interesting experiment to see if Texas can train the National Guard quick enough to know what they can and can’t do in the midst of this crisis. Perhaps this will be a model program of how we should protect our borders and we’ll see if this might reverse the tide of illegal immigrants of all ages flooding into our nation.
